Ms. Virginia Murphy Bergman, age 95, of Hollywood, Alabama passed on Monday October 6, 2025.
She is survived by her daughters Betty (Steve Cason), Doris Tucker, and sister, Jean Riley; grandsons, Donald Murphy, Joey Murphy and Parker Allen; granddaughters, Christy (Thomas Kinard), Ashley Love and Lauren (John Heikkinen); 9 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Ms. Bergman was preceded in death by her son, Eddie Joe Murphy; mother, Lula Keller; father, John Keller; brothers, Donald Keller and Paul Keller; sister, Mary Elizabeth Clark; husband, Mr. H.T. Murphy and in later years Mr. James R Bergman.
Ms. Bergman lived a life of service. In early years she worked in Insurance sales. She served with integrity for her community as city council member for 14 years and Mayor of Hollywood, Alabama for 4 years. Virginia held her family in high regard and took the role of "Nonnie" to generations of children and all who knew her. Her greatest service was to children age 3-5 as a Sunday School teacher for 40 years where she so loved teaching them about the Bible. She would so often laugh at all the funny things they would tell her. She was and will always be remembered for her love, Christian values and service. A life well lived!
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 10, 2025 at Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Duaine Griggs officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 11 a.m. Friday.
