Virginia Busby Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Martin & Hightower Funeral Home - Carrollton on Feb. 3, 2026.
Virginia Satcher Busby, age 84, of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026, leaving behind a life defined by faith, service, curiosity, and deep devotion to family and students alike. Born on October 19, 1941, in Pachuta, Mississippi, Virginia was the daughter of the late Elvin Prentiss Satcher, Sr. and Morrie Satcher. From an early age, she carried with her a quiet determination and a love for learning that would shape the rest of her life.

Virginia pursued her passion for education at West Georgia College, earning both her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Education. In 1975, she joined the faculty of Central Elementary School, where she taught second grade for twenty-five years until her retirement in 2000. Teaching was more than a profession for Virginia; it was a calling. She took genuine joy in her students and remained connected to many of them long after they had grown into adults. Her remarkable ability to recognize former students decades later never ceased to amaze them and always brought her great pride.

Faith was the cornerstone of Virginia's life. A devoted member of Tabernacle Baptist Church for more than fifty years, she served faithfully in the church nursery, participated in numerous committees, and taught in the church's Pre-K program early in her career. Beyond the walls of the church, Virginia lived her faith through service, volunteering for many years at the Carroll County Soup Kitchen. One of her greatest joys was delivering food to families in need alongside her husband, Steve, a simple act that reflected her generous spirit and compassion for others.

Virginia embraced the world with curiosity and enthusiasm. She loved to travel and fulfilled a lifelong dream of visiting all fifty states and more than fifty countries. While her travels took her far and wide, she held a special affection for the North Georgia mountains, where she treasured time spent with family and friends. Some of her most cherished memories were made traveling with Steve and sharing adventures with their granddaughters, Meagan and Abbey, when they were young.

At the heart of Virginia's life was her family. She is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband of nearly sixty-seven years, Steve Busby of Carrollton; her sons, Stephen Busby (Patricia Brooks) of Roopville and Kelly Busby (Michelle) of Carrollton; her grandchildren, Meagan Brown (Jared) and Abbey Busby; and her great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Christina Busby, James Busby, and Jack Brown. She is also survived by her sister, Wanda Hutto of Waynesboro, Mississippi; her brothers, Bobby Satcher of Denham Springs, Louisiana, and Ray Satcher of Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

A memorial service celebrating Virginia's life will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. from the Chapel of Tabernacle Baptist Church, with Dr. Stephen Allen and Rev. Mary Lou Grimmett officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. Members of the Love in Action Sunday School Class will be seated as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church, 150 Tabernacle Drive, Carrollton, Georgia 30117, or to THS Emergency Shelter, Inc., P.O. Box 1604, Carrollton, Georgia 30112.

Messages of condolence may be shared with the family at www.martin-hightower.com. Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel is honored to serve the Busby family during this time.

Satcher Lynne

February 3, 2026

I have such sweet memories of Virginia over the years. The visits were centered around the Satcher family, sometimes at holidays, sometimes at Wanda´s, sometimes in Pachuta
at their old family church, and sometimes just touring their old home spot, school, and eating at the restaurant there. No matter the gathering Virginia was always her bubbly self, full of fun and mischief. We kept in touch through texts and I always enjoyed tales of the "grands" and "great grands" of whom she was so proud. Her last text was "I´m 84 and having such a hard time typing that!" Please know I´m praying for all of you at her passing.
Love, Lynne Satcher
