Ms. Virginia “Ginger” Hill Austin, 72, of Albany, GA passed away Monday, November 6, 2023, at Phoebe-Putney Memorial Hospital.
Ginger, the daughter of Robert Byron “R.B.,” and Charlene Callaway Hill, was born in Americus, GA on March 2, 1951. Ginger had an easy laugh and loved her family first and foremost. Affectionately known as “G.G.” to her two grandchildren, they loved when G.G. picked them up from school and went somewhere special for a treat or to play for the afternoon. In life, she was loyal and devoted to her family, spending countless hours visiting with her parents and siblings, in life and later at the Ellaville City Cemetery. Her faith and love for Jesus carried her through all periods of her life, and she passed that faith on to her family. When her children were young, she enjoyed cooking for them, especially her fried chicken.
A woman who believed in faith and to always pull yourself together when the time called for it, she is remembered for her strength, positive outlook on life, love of color and all things that bring memories and association of the beach. When Ginger was younger, she was known to be a passionate enthusiast for aerobics and loved to travel.
A woman of timeless grace, Ginger cared for those she loved first and above herself. A devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, daughter, and friend, Ginger leaves a legacy of love, compassion, and laughter.
Ginger is loved and remembered by her children—daughter, Allison Austin Hester of Albany, GA and her husband, Clayton; and son, Stephen Austin of Comer, GA and his companion Jenny; her brother Robert Byron Hill, Jr. of Albany, GA; two grandchildren, Henley and Holland Hester of Albany, GA; and nephew, John Byron Reinhart of Tennessee. She is also survived by Steve Austin of Ellaville; Dorothy “Dot” Burkes and Valerie “Val” Trice, her nurses, caregivers and friends; and several other lifelong friends.
Ginger is preceded in death by her parents, and her sister and best friend, Cheney Hill Reinhart.
