Virginia (Ginny) Ruth Maty, aged 87, of Fair Oaks, passed away at her home on July 28, 2024. She is survived by her daughter, Toni Arnold (husband Mark) of Orangevale CA, her son, Scott Spruce (wife Dee) of Edenton, NC, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, a niece, nephews, and their families. Ginny was preceded in death by her husband, John Maty, her parents, Edward and Barbara Mills, and her sister, Dorothy Bender.
Ginny was born in California, Pennsylvania, on Christmas Eve, 1936. Her family was close; they had Sunday dinners together. Starting when Ginny was in fourth grade, her family moved to different locations around the country, including Wisconsin (she didn’t like the snow). She graduated high school in 1954 while living in San Diego. A year later, she moved to Sacramento and attended American River College, where she was homecoming princess, and where she met her first husband, Charles Spruce.
Ginny enjoyed working outside of the home. She started in clerical work with the State of California before Toni was born. She became interested in Human Resources and worked as a Personnel Analyst, a Manager, and a Labor Relations Officer. She retired as a Personnel Officer in 1999 from the California State Lottery, with 30 years of state service. She also worked part time at some retail clothing stores and the Discovery Shop in Roseville.
She married her husband John in 1983. They lived in Carmichael, and then in Sun City, Lincoln Hills after Ginny retired. Their interests included being with their friends, golf, seeing movies, and dancing to 50’s music. Ginny’s interests included fashion and interior design. She loved to put together the perfect outfit and enjoyed discovering coordinating artwork and furnishings for her home. Her girlfriends would often accompany her on these quests. She also loved the ocean and enjoyed travelling to Bermuda and Hawaii with John.
All are invited to attend a memorial on Friday, October 4, 2024,11:00, at Wells Chapel, Fair Oaks Church (11427 Fair Oaks Blvd., Fair Oaks).
