Cathy Ellen Cross (James), 72, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025, in Roseville, California, her final days she was surrounded by the people she loved most. She was born on August 30, 1953, in Sacramento, California, to Jim and Beverly James.
A longtime resident of North Highlands, Cathy graduated from Highlands High School in 1971. She built a fulfilling career as a cosmetologist, working in the Sacramento area for many years before retiring to focus on her family, who meant the world to her.
Cathy had a vibrant personality and a love for life’s simple joys. She was a devoted fan of Harley Davidsons, gardening, fancy fingernails, Starbucks hot mochas and watching cooking shows and true crime documentaries. She was never happier than when she was spending time with her loved ones. Her home was always filled with the warmth and companionship of her beloved pets Teenie Tiny and her grand-dog Mable, she found peace and beauty in the world around her—especially in the quiet moments watching birds and other nature's miracles.
She is survived by her siblings, Robert and Lori; her daughters, Angela, Rachel, and Sheena; her sons-in-law, Josh and Chris; and her cherished grandchildren, Nathan, Kayla, Isabella, Kianna, Roman, Aurora, and Elias. She also leaves behind her devoted long-term partner, Alan.
Services for Cathy will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, at East Lawn, 5757 Greenback Lane, Sacramento, CA 95819. A viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. A private graveside burial and reception for immediate family will follow.
