Virginia "Ginger" Nell (McNabb) Hart was born on July 4, 1944 to her loving and devoted parents, James Swan McNabb, Jr. and Nellie Geneva (Stout) McNabb in
Mineral Wells, Texas. She was welcomed into her heavenly home on February 29, 2024 as a good and faithful servant of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Alongside her devoted parents, her earliest loves in her life were her dear siblings. She was a loving and devoted sister to Judy Ann (McNabb) Landers, whom Ginger was so sure would be a sister that she named her before she was born. Judy and Ginger shared a special bond that transcended even their sisterly love and she welcomed Judy's husband John as another brother into the family. She was also blessed with her beloved and cherished younger brother, James "Jim" Swan McNabb, III a few years later. They lived their adult lives "one mile gate to gate" and he and his wife Donna (Ginger's other "sister" and confidant) were steadfast rocks and comforters to her.
Ginger met the love of her life, Don Hart, Sr. while she was still in high school. He spotted her playing basketball and began a determined and successful pursuit to make her his wife. They married on May 31,1963 in the chapel at the Texas Baptist Children's Home in Round Rock where her father was the administrator. That began her life as a devoted, loving wife to her surviving husband Don, Sr. They were blessed with two children, Don Jr. and Julie.
Ginger devoted herself to creating a loving, Christian household for her family. She was deeply involved with everything her children did, from a myriad of sports (where she never missed a game), to church activities and everything in between. She was the first to volunteer to cover any need and her generosity overflowed to countless other young people through her leadership in Sunday School, Bible studies and various booster programs in the Liberty Hill school district.
Ginger and Julie shared a love of many things - animals, people, Longhorn sports, laughter, Mitford novels, old movies and especially each other. In the last years of her life, she and Julie walked a long journey through Ginger's health challenges, bringing them even closer.
While Ginger was blessed with a loving family, she also counted Kay Williams as part of that family. Their friendship was deep and abiding and they shared laughter, joy, secrets (which we'll never know) and mostly love. Kay was a devoted and loving friend until the very end.
Ginger's fruitful life of ministry and service was a godly example as she continued to grow through the years and served others as an industrious Proverbs 31 woman. She remained a devoted wife, mother and friend and became a faithful and adoring grandmother to Don, Jr. and D'Ann's children: Emalee, Katie, Hannah, Valor, Victor, Jackson and Faith. Nana loved her grandchildren with everything in her, and they loved her with their whole hearts. Her home was a revolving door to them, and they have a wealth of precious memories. She loved hosting countless family dinners, special occasions and birthdays, always completed by her famous chocolate cake. Her grandchildren knew she loved every minute with them. She always had a listening ear and her best advice. Nana expressed God's love to her family in so many ways and was overjoyed when her first great-grandchild, Lanee, was born to Emalee and her husband Riley.
Nana dearly loved her church family. She was a faithful member of North Gabriel Christian Assembly for the last 20 plus years, where Don, Jr. was blessed to not only be a part of the body with Nana, but to also be one of her pastors. Church life was close and special, with the church name based in part because it began meeting in Nana and Pa Pa's home on the North San Gabriel River. She and Pa Pa hosted the meeting of the church each Lord's Day for many years, and there are a flood of many of our sweetest memories of church life during those years. She was "Nana" to everyone at church, and her home was a haven of hospitality for baby showers, wedding showers, fellowships and baptisms.
She is remembered by her church family and her closest friends as a gracious woman of wisdom, love, tenderness and kindness, and as a living expression of the joy of boundless hospitality. She was gifted to make others genuinely welcome in a unique and special way. Her church family and many friends loved her deeply and showed her such affection, appreciation, care and kindness. Our family is grateful beyond words.
Most importantly, Nana loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her last words to her family and close friends were to tell us how much she loved us. She asked D'Ann in a private moment to tell her grandchildren how much she loved them, and to keep continuously pointing them to Jesus. Such final wishes are a gift and blessing that represent a legacy for which we are grateful. We hope, by God's grace, to honor Him and continue that legacy of love for Christ and love for others.
Ginger is survived by her husband, Don Sr., son, Don, Jr. (wife D'Ann) and daughter Julie. Grandchildren Emalee Roberts (husband Riley); Katherine; Hannah; Valor; Victor; Jackson; and Faith Hart. Great granddaughter, Lanee Roberts. Sister, Judy Landers (husband John); brother Jim McNabb (wife Donna) and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and grand nephews and nieces.
