Virginia Leith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Downs Funeral Home - Superior on Oct. 11, 2023.
On Monday morning October 9th, 2023 God called our beloved mom, grandma and great grandmother home to be embraced into the graceful arms of her savior Jesus Christ at the age of 81.
Virginia Lee Leith was born May 14th, 1942 in Superior to Nels and Elizabeth Nelson. She was a life-long native of northern Wisconsin. She grew up in the Pattison Park area where she was the youngest of six children. She is preceded in death by her siblings Betty (Mikelson), Margaret (Susens), Jack and Raymond. Her brother Jim, and his wife Dee still live in Dayton OH.
Her dad affectionately pinned the nickname "Bunny" on her as a small infant. Bunny graduated from Superior Central in 1960. Bunny married Edgar Carlson in October 1962. They enjoyed a brief marriage until Edgar was tragically killed in a car accident in 1964. Together the young couple had a son, Leslie.
Bunny then met Donald Leith. The two were married on January 22nd, 1966. The couple lost an infant daughter to death but had daughter Cindy (Brown) and son Shawn. Bunny was a long-time member of Twin Ports Baptist Church as she enjoyed serving in the children's ministries by teaching Sunday School and Junior church. She recently joined Faith Baptist church in Hermantown and continued to minister to individuals with her kind and encouraging words.
She had a long professional career. She started working as a secretary for Investors Minneapolis for one year, then worked for St. Luke's Hospital for two years. She paused her career and began raising her family. As the children grew older, she became the co-owner and manager of Leith's Café in Wentworth from 1971-1974. When the Café sold, she became the Guidance Counselor secretary at Northwestern High School in Maple for 27 years until she retired in 2001. From there she continued to work part-time as a secretary for the UW extension office for another 16 years and finally retired from work in 2017.
Virginia is survived by children Les and his wife Deb, Cindy, Shawn and his wife Kelly. Grandma Bunny was an encouraging supporter and enthusiastic cheerleader for her grandkids in all of their activities. Her grandkids include: James, Hannah (Samuel), Crystal (Daniel), Ryan, Ethan, Jared (Monica), Carissa, Breanna, Harper and Dawson. Grandma Bunny was blessed to enjoy time with the next generation as well. She leaves behind five great grandchildren: James, Russell, Hayes, Andrew and Jordan.
Pastor Brian Witta will officiate the funeral on Saturday October 14th at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Faith Baptist Church in Hermantown. There will also be a visitation at Downs Funeral Home in Superior on Friday October 13th from 5 to 7 p.m. Internment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Superior.
