Virginia Compton Logan, 94, died Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at her home.
Born in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late John Frank Compton and Bertha Pritchard Compton.
Mrs. Logan was a 1945 graduate of Edmunds High School, a former member of Salem Avenue Baptist Church and then became a charter member of New Salem Baptist Church when the church relocated to West Oakland Avenue. While in high school and when living in Savannah, GA and Wilmington, NC, she worked for S.H. Kress. Upon her return to Sumter, she was employed by Cover Manufacturing/Madison Industries. Forty years later she retired as Production Coordinator for the Sumter plant.
Surviving family members include her daughter, Brenda Smith (Roy), her granddaughter, Tiffany Smith and her son, Raym, as well as Charlie's son, C. Mark Logan (Carol-Anne) of Arkansas. She loved her nieces and nephews as her own: Linda Amerson, LeRoy Compton (Georgia), Rosa Brock (Joe), Marilyn Compton, Clarence Carraway (Brenda), Calvin Carraway, Margaret Griffin, James Compton, Geraldine Ward (Mac), and Mary Elizabeth Hair.
She was preceded in death by Charlie M. Logan as well as her parents and her siblings, Marion Compton (Mae), Arthur Compton (Gladys), Mary Lou McLeod (Archie) and their little brother, Mason.
Graveside services will be held at 10 A.M. Saturday at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Steve Miller and Rev. Bryan Rogers officiating.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Virginia was a sweet and beautiful lady and it was a pleasure to know her. I know that she will be missed greatly but we know that she is with our Father in Heaven. It can't get any better than that. Much love to her family.
