Virginia McQuarrie, 88, wife of John Donald, daughter of Frank and Josephine Banafato, mother of Kathy (Joe), John (Kerry), Brian (Tricia), Joe (Kathleen), Frank (Kelly), Terry (Rich), Karen (Todd) passed away peacefully on June 30, 2025. Grandmother of Joe, Chris, Sarah, Jessica, Jacklyn, Dan, Jack, Madlyn, Katie, Frank, Joe, Abigail, Michael, Mary, Bump, Kathleen, Joshua, Gabrielle, Rosie, Ryan & Jacob, their spouses and partners, and 19 great grandchildren, she will be deeply missed. Ginny was born and raised in Matawan, where she grew up with her parents and her beloved three brothers, Joe (Nancy), Sal (Joan) and Frank (Donna), and the love of her life, Don. Together since they were 13- years-old, Ginny and Don raised 7 kids, educated them all in the Catholic tradition at St. Joseph's School in Keyport and St. John Vianney High School in Holmdel. Ginny was a proud and active member of St. Clement's Church serving as a Eucharist Minister and Altar Rosary Society member. She loved to cook, paint, bake themed cakes, edit school papers (and even wrote some @Karen) and was a fierce supporter of her kids' sports teams. She was always the first to show up - as a classroom mother, face painter, cook, minister, artist, babysitter or friend. Her overwhelming faith and love of the Lord was the cornerstone of her life and was apparent in everything she accomplished. Ginny started her career as a Bank Teller at Central Jersey Bank on Main Street in Matawan. While raising her 7 kids, she returned to work at the Matawan Regional School District, French & Parrello, and ended her career as an Executive Assistant at Schoor and DePalma. In the mid-80s she was one of the first in her company to learn how to use the Mainframe computer and happily taught anyone who was interested in learning. She was an exceptional colleague and still held close friendships with a number of the people she worked with over the years. Ginny leaves behind a legacy of family beyond measure and countless friends who became family along the way. She has loved and nurtured an heirloom of Christians, and cooks, and artists and lovers of family, friends, good food, lakes, books, beach vacations, lipstick and gum. She will be eternally missed. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to Breakthrough Type 1 Diabetes at www.breakthrought1d.org. A memorial gathering will be held Saturday from 9-11am at St. Clement RCC, Matawan followed by a 11am Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Keyport To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Virginia, please visit our Tree Store.
