Virginia Phillips “Ginny” Murrell, 78, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at the Hospice Home after several months of failing health.   She was born in Yancy County on October 5, 1945 to the late Carter and Millie Ann Byrd Phillips and was the wife of the late Larry Arthur Murrell.

Ginny was a longtime member of Apple's Chapel Christian Church where she faithfully served in many capacities. She found joy in spending time outdoors, whether it was tending to her flower garden, trips to the lake or beach, or just simply enjoying the peaceful relaxation of sitting on her porch.  Most of all she cherished time spent with her family.

Survivors include her sister, Vola Stewart; nieces, Debbie Mabe (Barney) and Lisa Whitesell; god-children, Jacob Whitesell (Casey Loy) and Megan Whitesell (Tommy Faucette); brother-in-law, Jerry Murrell (Joyce Fender); sisters-in-law, Dolly Gunnell (Jimmy), Donna Oakley (Cliff), Bonnie Murrell (Jodie Summers); ten nephews, five nieces, numerous great nieces and nephews as well as other extended family members. Ginny was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; parents, Carter and Millie Phillips; brothers, Homer, Raymond, Richard, Chester, Lester, Boyd, WG, and Edward Phillips; sisters, Viola Bennett and Edna Phillips Greeson; nephew-in-law, Ricky Whitesell and great nephew, Chris Clapp.

A service to celebrate Ginny’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at Apple's Chapel Christian Church by Pastor Dave Johnson, Rev. Allen C. Myers and Pastor Donnie Phillips with the burial to follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at her home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to AuthoraCare Collective (Hospice) of Alamance-Cawell, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215 or to Apple's Chapel Christian Church, 7345 NC Hwy 61, Gibsonville, NC 27249.
