Virginia Alolor Ramirez (“Auntie Virgie”, “Auntie Bing,” “Ate Bing,” “Grandma”) was born to Mr and Mrs Pastor Cueva Ramirez in Old Sagay, Negros Occidental, Philippines. At a very young age she moved to Bolinao, Pangasinan to help with the family store.

Early in 1967 she came to America (Monroe, LA) as an au pair to the children of Dionisio C Bugarin, MD and Alejandra C Bauzon, MD. She stayed with our family as we moved to West Virginia, then to Florida in 1977, where later she became a United States Citizen. We Bugarin children called her endearingly, Auntie.

She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Margarita Barbon and Lucia, and brothers Paterno and Leonito.

She leaves behind her sisters Monica Viallafior, Adela Browning, and Amanda Cudal (Gabriel, their children Gabriel and Amy Raydo), and many nieces and nephews in the Philippines and Virginia Beach.

Lastly, she leaves the children she raised as her own Elizabeth P. Bugarin, MD (her children Genevieve and Roxanne), Barry J Bugarin, and Karen Adair (Tommy Jr, their children James, William [Isabella], and Margaret).

Auntie dedicated her life in service to the Bugarin Children. She was the one we came home to each day after school. She kept the Bugarin household spic and span, washed our cloths, and prepared snacks, and the most amazing Philippine foods and desserts. When we were ill and stayed home from school, she was our bedside nurse. When we grew up and had children of our own, they became her grandchildren, and she loved and adored them, and was always slipping them cash!

Virginia enjoyed aerobics when she was younger and also loved to walk around the neighborhood, always appreciating how beautiful it was, even in her later days when she was immobile, she loved to sit in the sun. In October of 2023 she was diagnosed with aggressive stomach cancer and the family was told she had about 10 weeks to live. Hearkening to the prayers of friends and loved ones, The Lord had other plans. She continued with a high quality of life, taking so much joy from every visit with family, and lived a full year more. She passed in the home of Elizabeth in Weston, FL, with Barry, Karen and Margaret with her, days short of her 94th birthday. Everyone in her later days described Auntie as sweet, and indeed she was. But her departure is bittersweet, and she will be sorely missed. We believe with all our hearts that she left behind her pain and entered safely into Heaven unto the arms of Christ Jesus. (I expect she was so happy, and her eyes and her smile grew wide, as they often did, when she was filled with wonder.)
