Virginia "Jinny" Shively (née Carroll), 100, peacefully passed away in her sleep on December 28, 2025, at Westminster Village, West Lafayette, Indiana where she spent the final 9 years of her life. Jinny was born on November 13, 1925, in Knightstown, Indiana where she attended Knightstown High School. She graduated from Purdue University in 1947 in the School of Science. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority.

After a brief career as a stewardess with United Airlines, she moved back to Knightstown where she met and married Dr. John L. Shively on March 6, 1949. In his family medicine practice, Jinny took on multiple roles. Following his orthopedic residency in Indianapolis, they moved to Lafayette, Indiana and then to West Lafayette before she finally moved to Westminster Village.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John, brothers Joe Carroll and Bob Carroll, and sister, Pat Craig. She is survived by sons, Dr. John C. Shively (Blythe), Dave Shively (Misty), and daughter Susie Shively, and granddaughter, Amanda Shively. Jinny attended Faith Presbyterian Church in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Jinny was a devoted housewife and mother. At various times in her long life, she enjoyed traveling, knitting, word search puzzles, and jigsaw puzzles, as well as being an accomplished bridge player occasionally hosting bridge clubs. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family which included many dachshunds, among them, Ninny, Fritz, Schultz, Heinz, J.R., but especially, Bandit. A memorial service to celebrate Jinny's life will be held at Faith Presbyterian Church, 3318 SR 26, West Lafayette, Indiana on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Faith Presbyterian Church.
