James M. “Mike” Ferrell, 75, of Greensboro, passed away Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Hancock Regional Hospital. He was born on January 27, 1951, in New Castle to the late James Herbert Ferrell and Melba (Cross) Riddle.
A graduate of Knightstown High School, James served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam during the Vietnam War, including combat in Da Nang, and was a life member of the VFW and American Legion Post 137. He retired from Local 103 Operating Engineers after 38 years of service. He was Superintendent of many commercial projects. He also retired from the Greensboro Fire Department following over 12 years of service.
He enjoyed riding his Harley, vintage automobiles, fishing and hunting.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a daughter, Jami M. Ferrell of Lewisville, a son, Chris M. Ferrell (Tamara) of Centerville; a grandson, Oliver M. Patterson of Lewisville; a brother, Steve (Kathy) Ferrell of Greensboro; a step-brother, Larry Fowler (Tina); several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to express deepest gratitude to dedicated caregivers who surrounded him with love in his final months, Christie Davis and Angie Townsend whose visits he always enjoyed and special thanks to hospice nurse Nancy Foshee, whose compassion, friendship and wise guidance led him through to the end.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Herbert Ferrell; mother, Melba Riddle; his wife, Karen Ferrell; brother, Keith Ferrell.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The service will begin with military rites being conducted by the VFW, American Legion and a contingent from the U.S. Army. Burial will follow in Hicksite Cemetery in Greensboro. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society at cancer.org. Condolences and memories of James may be shared at www.hinsey-brown.com.
