CORDELE - Virginia Calhoun Spradley, age 89, died early Sunday morning, June 15, 2025, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 18, 2025, in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Oklahoma Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the funeral home one hour before the service.
Virginia, the daughter of E. D. "Dan" Calhoun and Lois Brown Calhoun, in Arabi, Georgia. Her husband, Lewis T. "Junior" Spradley, and brother, Thomas Edward Calhoun, preceded her in death.
A dedicated tax accountant, Virginia spent her career at Howard Rainey Accounting and Troy Pullen Accounting before retiring. She was an active member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where she contributed her time and talents in various roles, including VBS teacher, church secretary, treasurer, and clerk. Known for her culinary skills, she delighted family and friends with her famous red velvet cake, cheese straws, and chicken dressing. Virginia had a deep appreciation for nature, often enjoying fishing and tending to her flowers. An adventurous soul, she even tried zip-lining for the first time at the age of 75! The beach was another favorite getaway for her. She also took on the role of the "unofficial" Neighborhood Watch person, always looking out for her community.
Virginia is survived by her children Kenny (Mary) Spradley of Cochran, Georgia, Darrell (Gina) Spradley of Ashburn, Georgia, and Denise Spradley and Brian (Brandye) Spradley all of Cordele. She is also survived by her siblings Carlos Calhoun of Cordele, Leon Calhoun of Centerville, Georgia, and Barbara Schmauzer of Fairburn, Georgia; and her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
