Virginia Ella "Ginny" Starkel

Virginia "Ginny" Ella Starkel, 98, of El Dorado, Kansas, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2025.

Ginny was born on February 25, 1927, in Marion, Kansas, the daughter of Sidney "Lionel" and Ruth Clara (McCarty) Hobson. She graduated from Marion High School in 1945, and on May 23, 1948, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Arnold Clyde Starkel, at the Marion Christian Church. They were blessed with 77 years of marriage before Arnold's passing in June 2025.

A devoted homemaker, Ginny poured her love into her family and home. She was an accomplished seamstress, known for her beautiful handmade gowns and impeccable ironing-a task she took great pride in. Ginny used much of the money she earned from her sewing talents to support her passion for bowling. A dedicated bowler for much of her life, she continued to bowl several times a week well into her 90s, only stopping when the COVID-19 pandemic temporarily closed the lanes. She was 93 at the time.

Holidays were special in Ginny's home, where she delighted in hosting meals and creating cherished memories for her loved ones. She rarely missed a sporting event that involved her children or grandchildren, always cheering them on with pride and enthusiasm.

Ginny is survived by her daughter, Vicki Adams; her son, Gary (Karma) Starkel; her grandchildren, Michael (Chasity) Roberts, Angela Starkel, and Kyle Starkel; and her four great-grandchildren, who brought her tremendous joy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold; her parents; an infant brother, Jason; and her sister, Delores Lee.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 15, 2025, at Carlson Colonial Chapel. Ginny will be laid to rest beside her husband at Hillcrest Cemetery in Florence.

In honor of Ginny's memory, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Hickory Hollow Animal Refuge.
