SUMME, Virginia R. Passed away in the early morning hours of November 14, 2024 surrounded by her family, after a courageous acceptance of Stage IV Breast Cancer. Virginia "Ginny" is survived by her beloved husband of over 40 years Melvin L. Summe, and children, Lisa Summe, Lauren Forgash (Justin), Brian Summe, and Chad Summe. Also surviving are brothers James Hoopes (Rhonda), David Hoopes, sisters Kathleen Hoopes and Mary (Hoopes) Kohnen, niece Annmarie Hoopes, and nephews Daniel Warman and Matthew Warman. Ginny is predeceased by her mother Geraldine Hoopes, father Albert Hoopes, and sister Susan Hoopes, along with mother in-law Mary Summe and father in-law Melvin J. Summe. Ginny loved her animals, especially her late dog Teddy and Grand-Dogs Maxwell and Edgar, plus the birds and deer she regularly fed in her yard. Ginny was a very talented cook and baker, known for her wonderful Christmas cookies and healthy meals. Ginny was a Registered Nurse for over 40 years in many of the local hospitals. Her areas of expertise were her work with neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) babies and premature babies, along with their mothers and families. Ginny was recognized with the prestigious Florence Nightingale Nursing Award in 2014 for her NAS work, including research and publication of a study to use weighted blankets to treat NAS babies. Until illness forced retirement, Ginny continued to care for and comfort patients as a nurse for the Hospice of Cincinnati. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Brigid’s Path 3601 S. Dixie Dr. Kettering, Ohio 45439, Louie’s Legacy Animal Rescue at www. louieslegacy.org, or Hospice of Cincinnati C/O Bethesda Foundation 10500 Montgomery Rd. Cincinnati, Ohio 45242. Visitation will be at Meyer Funeral Home, 5864 Bridgetown Rd., on SATURDAY, November 23, 2024 from 9:00 to 11:00AM immediately followed by a memorial service.
