Virginia "Jenny" Thacker, born on December 9, 1940, in Dayton, Ohio, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2025, in her beloved hometown. She was a cherished member of her community and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Jenny dedicated herself to a fulfilling career, retiring from Esco, where she served as a skilled silk screen operator. Following her retirement, she found tremendous joy in volunteering and working at the Salvation Army, where her generous spirit and compassionate heart left an indelible mark on the lives of many. Jenny was known for her strong personality; she was often described as "the boss," commanding respect and admiration in equal measure. As the youngest sibling, she was affectionately spoiled and had a good heart that endeared her to family and friends alike.
Her vibrant life was filled with a variety of interests and hobbies. Jenny enjoyed playing Bingo, gaming at the casino—with poker being her favorite—and loved spending time with her family. Many cherished memories were made during her years camping with her husband, as they explored the great outdoors together. In her later years, she developed a fondness for cats, continuing to fill her life with love and companionship.
Jenny took immense pride in her family and was particularly proud of her grandchildren, who brought her so much joy and fulfillment. She is survived by her loving family, including her children Richard Powell, Rebecca Lenardson, Janet "Billie" Keaton, Samantha (Ted) Bowling, and Kathy (Heath) Waikel, along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sister, Janet Buggs, and many nieces and nephews.
Jenny's life was marked by the love of many, but she is now reunited with her beloved husband, Hubert Thacker; her parents, Stanley and Nannie Powell; and her daughter, Rhonda Graves. She was also preceded in death by her siblings: Shirley Vandersal, Margie Bohannon, Harry Powell, Bill Powell, Myrtle Gutwien, Mable Gibson, Willard Powell, Vernon Powell, and Phyllis Powell.
Visitation will be held on May 31, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a funeral service from 3:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Dayton, located at 4104 Needmore Rd, Dayton, OH 45424. Jenny will be laid to rest at a later date with her husband at the Dayton National Cemetery.
