Mathews Funeral HomeVirgle Eugene Stroud, Sr., 91, of Lee County, GA at his residence. Funeral services will held Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at 11:00 am at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Robin Chaplin will officiate. Interment will follow in Floral Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Virgle was born in Cordele, GA to Joseph and Eva Mae Stroud on October 1, 1934. His family moved to Albany, GA when he was eleven years old where he grew up. Virgle joined the United States Marine Corps and served in The Korean Conflict.
He moved to Lee County, GA in 1964 and was a member of Victory Baptist Church. Virgle was employed with The Marine Corps Logistic Base 33 years AS a tool and die maker. After his retirement, he was employed with The Flint River Golf Course and Stonebridge Golf and Country Club. If it was motorized, Virgle could fix it.
He was preceded in death by his wonderful and talented wife, Betty Davis Stroud, his daughter, Liani and three brothers, Marvin “Bimbo” Stroud, Joe L. Stroud and James E. “Pete” Stroud.
Survivors include his children, Jo E. Driver (Marshall), Crawfordville, FL, Luanne Woodward (Jimbo) of Lee County, GA, Virgil E. “Gene” Stroud, Jr. of Lee County, GA, Rocky Stroud (Marcel) of Walnut Cove, NC and Jack D. Stroud (Kathy) of LaGrange, NC, seventeen grandchildren and fifty one great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Mathews Funeral Home.
