In Loving Memory of Vivian "Grammy" Anderson

Vivian Anderson, lovingly known as “Grammy” or “Vivi” to those closest to her, passed peacefully surrounded by family, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering support that will echo through generations. A proud graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology, Vivian brought style, grace, and poise to every aspect of her life — from her career to her home, and most importantly, to her family.

A woman of deep Christian faith, Vivian lived by the motto: “I don't know is an answer to nothing,” a reminder of her lifelong commitment to knowledge, accountability, and service. Her life was a reflection of Proverbs 31 — a woman of noble character, dignity, and love.

Vivian’s proudest accomplishment was not any singular achievement, but the generations of lives she nurtured, supported, and uplifted. She provided a stable, loving home to over five generations, never wavering in her role as the family matriarch. Whether preparing a family feast, cheering from the sidelines at youth sporting events, or organizing a family trip, Grammy was the heartbeat of every gathering.

Vivian’s love story with her late life partner, Ervin Crenshaw, was one of enduring connection and partnership. Ervin preceded her in death on August 11, 2004, at the age of 60, but their shared memories continued to shape her life and the lives of those around her. She is survived by her devoted children, Donna Janney-Robinson and Larry Anderson; her cherished grandchildren, Iesha Gray, Tamara Anderson, Robert McElhaney, Algernia Anderson, and Cameron Anderson; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Ari’Mariyah Anderson, Alaysia Carpenter, Adonis Carpenter, Apollo Carpenter, and A’vonni Anderson. Vivian is also remembered with love by her close family: Georgia, Fannie, Rufus, Roseanne, Libby, Frannie, Shirley, Tasha, Sue, Ashley, Charles, Harry, and Iranda.

Vivian’s heart for others extended beyond her family. She was an active member of West Broad Church of the Nazarene and proudly aligned with the Democratic Party of Franklin County. Her charitable spirit led her to support causes dear to her heart, including the Salvation Army, the Kennedy Foundation, Goodwill, and Franklin County Food Banks. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she volunteered at a senior community center, offering her time, energy, and compassion to those many considered her peers — a testament to her servant’s heart.

Vivian was strong, faithful, thoughtful, stylish, and down-to-earth. Her life was filled with countless stories of generosity, kindness, and resilience. Those who knew her were inspired by her wisdom, soothed by her comfort, and transformed by her love.

Her physical presence may be gone, but the essence of Vivian “Grammy” Anderson lives on in every meal shared, every life uplifted, and every act of kindness done in her memory.

She will be missed deeply and remembered always.
