Vivian Marsha Boyd

Ashton, Maryland – Loyal, dedicated, and dear mother and grandmother, Vivian "Viv" Marsha Boyd was called home by the Lord on July 23, 2023.
Viv was born on January 2, 1949, in Washington, DC, and raised by her parents Carl and Sarah (Sellers) Carter. Viv's life can best be described as miraculous. Determined to be legally blind shortly after birth, she began a life unimaginable for an individual with her disability. With loving devotion, Viv's parents and grandparents Harry and Estelle (Watts) Sellers raised her to live and dream without limitations.
Live she did! Vivian was always just Viv, not defined or limited by her disability, and never afraid to do anything. She was identified as gifted at an early age and excelled in school. Viv entered the Maryland School for the Blind in 1956 and graduated with honors. She attended Howard University, Catholic University, and American University, collecting bachelor's degrees in psychology and sociology and a master's degree in psychology, all with honors.
Viv married Maurice A. Boyd of Washington, DC in 1970, and welcomed her only child, a son Kenneth. That union ended, and she raised her son with the support of her large and loving family. Viv was an accomplished pianist who taught lessons to others and loved music of all genres, but especially rock and roll and classical music from the Baroque period.
She is survived by her son Kenneth Boyd and her grandchildren Miles Boyd and Kennedy Boyd, all of Accokeek, Maryland, her four siblings Randolph & Pauline Willis of Greenbelt, Maryland, Harry Willis of Costa Rica, Michael Willis of Upper Marlboro, Maryland and Margaret "Toni" Johnson of Silver Spring, Maryland, her beloved Aunt Evelyn Sellers as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The Family wishes to acknowledge the loving care provide by her nurse and special friend Ms. Victoria Nwogu.
The funeral will be a private ceremony with close family members present.
