Vivian Chapple-Swindell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Watkins Heritage Chapel - Kansas City on Dec. 4, 2025.
Vivian "Viv" Chapple-Swindell was born on November 1, 1924, in Charleston, Arkansas, to the late John Wesley Chapple and Lillie Kertendall. She was raised in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, where she graduated from Fort Gibson High School in 1942.
Mrs. Swindell later relocated to Kansas City, Missouri, where she worked for many years at Sidney's Restaurant on the Plaza. There, she became well-known for her amazing cheesecakes and rolls, which delighted countless customers and earned her a cherished reputation. After Sidney's closed, she continued her culinary career at Nichols Luncheon on Southwest Trafficway, where she worked until retiring after more than 40 years of dedicated service. Baking and cooking were her true passions, and she shared them generously with everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Mrs. Swindell accepted Christ at an early age. She attended Ward Chapel AME Church and later joined Palestine Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Earl Abel. She held a deep faith in God and shared that faith with everyone around her. She was united in marriage to John Swindell in Kansas City, Missouri. Mrs. Swindell departed this life on November 21, 2025, surrounded by family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Swindell, her parents, John Wesley and Lillie Chapple, her children, Jacquelyn Blaylock, and Robert Chase Sr., one brother, John W. Chapple, two sisters, Bertha Rucker and Dicie Anderson, a granddaughter, Tracey Blaylock and son-in-law, Benjamin Blaylock.
