Nina Henderson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Watkins Heritage Chapel - Kansas City on Dec. 4, 2025.
Nina Adella Henderson, beloved mother, grandmother, and the heart of her family, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2024, at the age of 83. Born on June 13, 1941, in Kansas City, Missouri, Nina was the cherished daughter of James Beverly and Lillian Reeves.
She was raised in a large, loving family and is survived by her siblings Everett Beverly, Hewie Paige, Ronald Paige, Donald Paige, Jonnie Mae Winburn, and Shirley. She was preceded in death by her brother James Beverly.
Nina shared many years of her life with Floyd W. Pruitt Jr. (1937–2012). Together, they raised four daughters who became her greatest pride: • Sharon Cross (Kansas City) • Michele Fields (Kansas City) • Regina Moore (California) • Lillian Johnson, who preceded her in death (1961–1996)
Her legacy continues through her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, each carrying forward a piece of her love, strength, and wisdom.
A Creative Spirit & Cultural Teacher
Nina was a born entrepreneur whose creativity shaped her entire life. She ran her own store and built her livelihood with talent, dedication, and an eye for beauty. She could design African clothing, craft jewelry, create art, and hand-make traditional Kwanzaa kinaras-there was little she couldn't make with her hands and her imagination. Her passion for African-American heritage guided much of her life's work. For years, she was an active member of the National Black United Front, where she shared cultural knowledge, crafted traditional items, and served as a vendor at community events throughout Kansas City. Through her gifts and teachings, Nina helped countless people connect with their culture, identity, and pride.
