Vivian Moisan Desmarais, of Middlebury, VT, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2025, at the age of 95. Her final days were filled with love and surrounded by those who cherished her most.
Vivian leaves behind a legacy of tireless work ethic, unwavering kindness, deep family pride, and remarkable strength, grit, and determination.
Born on April 23, 1930, in Lowell, MA, Vivian was the daughter of William and Irene (Sawyer) Moisan, and sister to the late Donald, Albert, and Carl. She was raised in Lowell, where she met the love of her life, Silvio Raymond "Ray" Desmarais, her husband of sixty-one years. Together, they raised their family in Nashua, NH, and spent countless joyful summers at their cottages in Hampton Beach, NH. After retiring, Ray and Vivian moved to Cape Cod, MA, where they enjoyed an active life filled with hobbies, social gatherings, and charitable work.
Vivian was the proud mother of three children: Edward W. Desmarais (Kathleen) of Exeter, NH; Mark Raymond Desmarais (Pamela) of Punta Gorda, FL, and Harwich, MA; and Paula Louise Roeloffs (Chris) of New Haven, VT. She was a devoted grandmother to nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
She was known for her green thumb and deep love of gardening, and her competitive spirit at the bridge table was second to none. Vivian will be remembered for her grace, her quiet strength, and her enduring devotion to her faith.
Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Eastview at Middlebury and Addison Home Health and Hospice for their compassionate care.
Private services will be held at a later date. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Vivian, please visit our Tree Store.
