Vivian Ann Lilly, a ray of love and compassion, passed away on April 5, 2025, in
McHenry, IL, at the age of 79. Born on August 18, 1945, in Vandalia, IL, to the late Hugh Clare and Nanette Korson, Vivian's life was defined by her vibrant relationships, fearlessness, and an unwavering commitment to her family.
Vivian's childhood was filled with love and laughter, surrounded by her devoted parents, her late brothers Michael and Thomas, and her sisters, Nancy Reeder, Susan Khano, and Ada Johnson. She was the heart of her family, her presence acting as a warm and comforting embrace to all who were fortunate to be part of her life.
Upon graduating high school in 1963, Vivian enrolled in the Army in pursuit of widening her horizons and seeking new adventures. During her three years of service, she was part of the Signal Corps, spending most of her time in Fort Huachuca, AZ, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal for her efforts. An uncommon act for women her age at the time; Vivian's decision to enlist was a true mark of her bravery, courage, and dedication.
Vivian's journey in life took a turn filled with love and companionship when she met the love of her life, William Lilly, and the two were united in marriage on July 6, 1968, in Greenville, IL. Their partnership was blessed with three loving children, William Patrick, Kimberly Ann (Scott) Dunham, and Jo Ann Marie Lilly. Vivian's joy multiplied with the arrival of her grandchildren, Jessica Nicole (Zach) Wilson, Clare Margaret Reiken, Lilly Anne Dunham, and William Robert Dunham, as well as her great-grandchildren, Kollyns and Briar Wilson, all of whom she was deeply devoted to, and who brought immense happiness to her life.
An avid learner, Vivian enjoyed traveling with her husband and family, or getting lost in the pages of her books. She sought out adventures, eager to make new memories along the way. She also had an affinity for shopping, always on the lookout for treasures that caught her eye.
A creative at heart, Vivian expressed herself through her various projects, finding enjoyment in her artwork that she often shared with others. This passion extended itself to her fondness for gardening, which is evident in the flowers that always adorned her home. Vivian had a love for cooking and hosting, always ready to open her home to celebrate alongside her loved ones. These festivities were often accompanied by various puzzles and board games, another favorite pastime of Vivian's, which were the source of countless memories and hours of laughter with her family, whom she adored spending time with above all else.
Vivian will be remembered for her selflessness and her capacity to love unconditionally. Her caring nature, combined with her bubbly and charismatic personality, made her a joy to be around. She was the embodiment of courage, her passion for life touching everyone she met.
The legacy Vivian leaves behind is one of love, courage, and the pursuit of joy. She has been a guiding light, a source of strength, and an example of how to live a life filled with passion and kindness. Vivian's memory will continue to inspire and uplift all who knew her, a testament to the extraordinary life she led.
As we bid farewell to Vivian Ann Lilly, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and cherish the countless memories she has left in our hearts.
