Vivian E. Pitts went to her eternal rest to be with the Lord and Savior on May 5, 2025. Vivian was born on August 22, 1961, in Dover, Delaware, to the late John Wesley Pitts Sr. and S. Lowan Pitts.
Vivian graduated from Dover High School in 1979 and then began her college career at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland, majoring in Psychology. While attending Morgan State, she was active in many campus activities, which included the Student Government Association and, in the fall of 1980, Vivian became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Alpha Gamma Chapter, along with 18 other young ladies. Vivian would later transfer to Delaware State University in 1982 to continue her education. Ultimately, she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Delaware State University in 1984. Vivian continued her education at Delaware State University, earning a Master of Science degree in Psychology in 1987.
After graduation, she worked as a Case Manager in the State of Delaware Human Services Division. Upon relocating to Columbia, Maryland in 1991, she joined the Baltimore City Health Department Children's Mental Health Division as a Case Manager until her early retirement due to her illness. Vivian returned to Dover, Delaware, and despite her disability and her persistence in helping others, she was able to work part-time at the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill in Smyrna, Delaware. She was passionate about her life's work to deliver the best quality service possible.
Vivian will be remembered for her beautiful smile, giving spirit, love of jewelry, and designer purses. She was a fan of Barack and Michelle Obama, devouring any information she discovered about the loving couple. She loved good food, especially cheese steaks from Betsy Ross Pizza Restaurant, and Dunkin Donuts coffee. She enjoyed talking to people and always wanted news about the family, and wanted to see pictures of the family. She never tired of watching her favorite old school TV shows, "Andy Griffith", "Monk", "Columbo", and any British sitcoms.
Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, John Wesley Pitts Sr. and S. Lowan Pitts; her sister, Roxanne Pitts, Esq.; and her brothers, Blaine Pitts and John Pitts, Jr.
Vivian is survived by two special sister/cousins, Jana Yancey (Mark) of Virginia and Gwen Baylor of Maryland; sister-in-law, Trina Pitts of Georgia; nieces, Amour Suarez of Oklahoma, Jourdyn Pitts of Delaware, and Jayla Pitts of Georgia; nephew, SGT Malik Jones of Kansas; great niece, Adore Burton of Delaware; godson, Jacob Bonner of Georgia; two special friends, best friend and Soror, Anita Bonner of Georgia and Ken Huff (Mr. Goodwood) of Delaware; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
