Roy Otis. Brown Jr., affectionately known as "Skeet" by all who knew and loved him, was born on October 24, 1951, in Richmond, Virginia. He was the beloved son of the late Roy O. Brown Sr. and Mary Irene Brown. He departed this life on April 12, 2025. Roy joined Union Baptist Church at an early age.
Roy graduated from Virginia Randolph High School. He attended Morgan State University, where he majored in music, specializing in classical performance theory. While at Morgan State, Roy pledged Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Pi Chapter, Fall 71, Line #1. He earned his degree at Virginia State University.
A classically trained musician, Roy's love for music began in childhood, often spending hours playing the piano-gracefully mastering the works of Bach, Beethoven, Mozart and other musicians. His passion for knowledge was profound. Growing up, he read the dictionary and encyclopedia from A to Z!
Though he was a quiet soul, once engaged, Roy could hold a meaningful and thought-provoking conversation. His words were thoughtful and honest so much so that you were advised never to ask him a question unless you truly wanted the truth! His dry wit, quiet wisdom, and gentle presence left a mark on every life he touched.
Roy was employed at Philip Morris, in the chemistry lab for many years. He also trained in Karate Jutsu under Grand Master Otis Jones, a discipline that reflected his quiet strength and deep sense of focus. He loved walking daily, taking in the world around him with calm and peace.
Roy leaves to cherish his memory: Tiffaney E. Bruce (Anthony), Roy O. Brown III, and Moquisia R. Brown. His grandchildren Taylor N. Brown, Madison M. Brown, and Tristan J. Bruce; his siblings, Attorney Henry O. Brown, Preston T. Brown, Dr. Larry D. Brown Sr., V. Renee Maddox (George), Faye I. Logan, and Phillip H. Brown. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, fraternity brothers, and cherished friends.
Roy O. Brown Jr. "Skeet" was a man of grace, discipline, depth, and quiet brilliance. Though he has transitioned from this life, his music, wisdom, and spirit will echo through the lives he touched.
"Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning." – Psalms 30:5
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2pm, Saturday, April 26th, 2025 at the Union Baptist Church, New Kent.
