Vladimir Marecic Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Newbaker Funeral Home - Blairstown on Nov. 27, 2025.
Vladimir Marecic passed away at the age of 91 years at the Mohawk Meadows Rehab & Nursing Home in Andover, NJ on a sunny Sunday morning, 16 November 2025, from natural causes.
Vlad, as he was affectionately known, was born 22 May 1934 in Zagreb Croatia. His father was Matej, or Mato, Marecic, and his mother was Emilija Amalja Macek. He was married to his beautiful German-born sweetheart, Monika, on 22 May 1963 in New York City. They were later sealed as a couple for all eternity in the Washington D.C. Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, on 22 May 1982. They were married for 62 years.
Vladimir was a multifaceted person with numerous talents and skills. After high school in Croatia, he migrated to Germany and then the United States where he worked as a watchmaker, and in different aspects of the restaurant business. As a young man, he also developed a keen interest in horseback riding and competed in various equestrian championship events. Later, he was trained and worked for two different airlines in the United States and in the Orient, and in Europe, as a purser and flight service manager. He even wrote and self-published two books – Wake Up or Die America, and What Is Our Future, America? He later developed businesses building homes on Long Island, in St. Thomas Virgin Islands, and in Vernon NJ. At the age of 75, he was simultaneously building two large homes in Vernon, mostly by himself.
In 1979, Vladimir and Monika joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints which added a community involvement to his long list of services and accomplishments. Vladimir became a High Priest in this Church when he was called to serve as a counselor in the Uniondale Long Island Bishopric and, subsequently, the St. Thomas Virgin Island Branch Presidency.
Throughout his life, he loved making people happy and caring for all of God's children and creatures – especially horses and dogs. Those who knew Vladimir well will long remember his diverse and amazing talents, his willingness to serve others, and his constant efforts to find ways to make others happy.
A celebration of Vladimir's life will be held on Sunday, November 30, 2025, starting at 12:15 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 95 Pinckneyville Road in Sparta, NJ.
