Vonda Louise Hancock, 89, widow of Cyrus Milton Hancock, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 12, 2025. She was born in Owen County, Kentucky, on May 4, 1936, to the late Clark and Sue Hawkins. Vonda retired from the Kentucky Department of Libraries and Archives and was a devoted member of Providence Baptist Church for over 60 years.
Vonda had a deep love for crocheting, especially afghans and name designs. Many of her afghans were lovingly prayed over and delivered to the homebound, elderly, sick, hospitalized, or those who had recently lost a loved one. Her beautiful creations brought comfort to countless individuals and now reside in homes across many states and even in other countries, a lasting testament to her talent and generosity. Vonda also loved to read and enjoyed spending time with her husband attending auctions. Together, they operated a booth at the Peddlers Mall for many years, sharing their appreciation for antiques and collectibles.
She is survived by her sons, Cornelious Clark Hancock (Patti) of Springboro, OH; Terry Gayle Hancock (Susan) of Frankfort, KY; and Robert Dewayne Hancock (Marissa) of Georgetown, KY. Her grandchildren: Jillianne Waardenburg (Ty), David Hancock (Jenny), Jonathan Hancock (Kasey), Dylan Hancock (Emily), Kyle Hancock (Buckley), Alex Hancock (Cody Payne), Samantha Conway, Jacob Conway, and Taylor Conway. Her great-grandchildren: Charissa Waardenburg, Anna Waardenburg, Nathan Hancock, Evianna Hancock, Aiden Hancock, Landon Hancock, Laurel Hancock, James Payne, Alder Hancock, Robert Payne, Daisy Hancock, and Ruby Hancock. Her brothers: James Clark Hawkins (Carmenita) and Gregory Kelly Hawkins (Patti); and her sister-in-law, Helen Hawkins.
In addition to her husband of 62 years, she was preceded in death by her son, Milton Blane Hancock, and her brother, Blane Scott Hawkins.
Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Clark Legacy Center, Versailles Road, with Cornelious Hancock officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM, prior to the service at the same location. Serving as casketbearers will be Vonda's grandchildren.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the Wells Home Care team, especially Martha Wells, for the exceptional care they provided to our beloved mom, grannie, sister, and aunt over the last two years. While flowers are welcome, we encourage memorial contributions to Wells Home Care, 307 Caudill Ave, Georgetown, KY, to help with supporting their future patients suffering from Alzheimer's and dementia.
