W. Wade Bromwell

W. Wade Bromwell passed away Sunday, July 27, 2008, at the age of 95, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

He survived by his loving wife, Betty; his daughter, Barbara Bromwell Terry and her husband, Wayne, of Farmville, Virginia; two grandchildren, Wade Bromwell Delk and his wife, Paula, and their two children Nolte Aileen and Wade Bromwell Delk Jr. of McLean, Virginia; and Tammye Delk Van Clief and her husband, J. Courtlandt Van Clief and children, Margaret, and Courtney of Mathews and Charlottesville, Virginia; and Paula Groom his benevolent caregiver.

Wade was born in Washing-ton, D.C. and raised in Clarendon, Virginia. He is a graduate of Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, Virginia and Southeastern Law School in Washington, D.C. He was married in 1934 to Bertha Aileen Arnold who pre-deceased him in 1979. Wade was a career F.B.I. Agent having served for nearly 25 years; following a short retirement, he then became the Director of Security at the University of Virginia for the following 14 years.

Wade was an early recipient of the Demo lay Legion of Honor, was a longstanding member of the Elks, the Shriners (ACCA), was a Mason, and a Life member of Farmington Country Club.

Wade's love of life, dedication to the community good, generosity, and good humor will live in the hearts and minds of those who survive him.

The family wants to thank the Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad, the University of Virginia Medical Center Emergency Care, ICU, and the Palliative Care Unit for their warm and thoughtful care during the final days of Wade's life.

A memorial service will be held in Charlottesville, at the University Baptist Church 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2008.

Memorial contributions to The Shriner's Children's Hospital, the Kluge Children's Rehabilitation Center or the University Baptist Church, will be greatly appreciated.

Wade always brought joy to us as his facinating personality & stories kept the Cibik family enchanted. As our fond memories of Wade will always be with us, it's our hope, Betty, that your sorrow will errode soon and the bright light of your wonderful life together with Wade will shine on you forever.

Our sincere condolences to the family on Wade's passing. I recall many enjoyable times we spent at Elk's functions and golf outings. Wade always seemed to have a good time and made sure those around him did too.
