Wally Maynard age 84, passed away on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 after a four-month illness.
He was born in Escanaba, MI the oldest of 7 sons to Marie and Wallace Maynard Sr. The family moved to Menasha, WI where he grew up attending both St Mary and Menasha High, class of 1959. Wally belongs to the American Legion Post 0436 in Wrightstown, served in the 127th infantry, 32nd division and retired with the rank of 1st LT. He was stationed at Ft Lewis, WA during the Cuban Missile Crisis was deployed to Panama to become “Jungle Expert”.
On May 18, 1963 Wally married his high school sweetheart and began a wonderful life together. His career spanned 27 years with Marathon – later American Can Co, 13 years with IP, Thilmany Division and 5 years with CEI in Wrightstown all in flexible packaging. Wally loved playing cards, especially Cribbage and Sheepshead. He was an avid Packer fan even when he was a kid, and before television listened to the games on the radio with his Dad. Close friends and family knew he collected Santa’s and he fostered and supported children through the Christian Children’s Fund for over three decades. An avid athlete he excelled at bowling, golf and his favorite racquetball. A competitive soul, he had trophies in all of them. Wally was a Mensa.
Wally was a kind, generous man who loved his volunteer jobs especially at St Joe's Food Pantry and the Salvation Army.
Wally is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marilyn, sons, Scott (Kristie) Maynard and Jim (Cathy) Maynard; grandchildren, Benjamin, Julia (Anderson), Matthew, Brandon (Carissa), Austyn (Sarah), Mitchell (Brittanie), Levi, Seth, Tai, and Gus (Suzanne); great grandchildren, Madalynn, Aubree, Noah, Evelyn, Lucas, and Nolan; siblings: Jerry (Ellie) Maynard, Ken (Deb) Maynard, Jeff (Peggy) Maynard, Dale Lauren, Cheryl Fritz, Pam (Rod) Puess, Bob (Pam) Guy, Susan Maynard, Skip Kelly, Dick Biederwolf, Judy Kaczmarski, and many beloved Biederwolf and Maynard nieces and nephews, so treasured by us. Everyone loves to reminisce about Dellwood Street Thanksgivings and Maynard Meatball Feasts.
Family who proceeded him in death, his parents, Wallace Sr and Marie Maynard, in-laws Robert and Ermalinda Biederwolf, Bob Biederwolf, Dolores and Denis Campbell, Don Kelly, Don Kaczmarski, Ann Biederwolf and Mark Biederwolf. Brothers, Raymond, Patrick, Michael, Harry Guy Jr, John Fritz and Donna Maynard.
Special thank you to Rennes Rehab, OT, PT and Speech who worked with Wally over the past 15 years since his stroke to make living in our new norm possible. You were the “Boots On The Ground” towards recovery. Also, thank you to Deacon Ken and Betty for prayers, visits and Eucharist and special loyal friends, Bill and Genny, Dawn and Betty.
We are all blessed to be part of your life Wally and until we meet again, “May God Hold You in the Palm of His Hand. Your infectious smile, your integrity, your generosity, will be greatly missed. Our letters always closed with “JMJ” and “ILY”.
The family will greet relatives and friends at Holy Family Church, 1100 W Ryan St Brillion, WI 54110 on Saturday, October 25, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:15 p.m, Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 PM with Father Matthew Colle and Deacon Ken Kabat presiding. Military Rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 126 of Brillion and the American Legion Post 0436 of Wrightstown.
