Walter Niels Ament, age 83, of Troy, passed away on November 12, 2024. He was born on May 14, 1941 to Leroy and Anna Ament.
Walt originally began his professional life as a teacher. But after two years, he found that wasn't his calling and soon began a long career in the automotive industry. His first stop was at Chrysler, but he ultimately ended up spending nineteen years with Ford as a plant layout engineer. In his free time over the years, Walt enjoyed woodworking and especially RV'ing. Upon his retirement from Ford, Walt purchased a Class A motorhome that he and Linda took on many trips. Lots of these trips were to different parts of Michigan, but he and Linda also managed an epic cross-country trip that brought them back to Michigan along the iconic Route 66. Walt was also a longtime Dream Cruise enthusiast who attended over twenty of the annual events since its inception. It's fair to say that he absolutely loved to reminisce about his days cruising Woodward back in his teens and twenties.
Walt will be remembered as the beloved husband of the late Linda, and the loving father of Lisa Ament, Mark Ament, and David Ament.
Visitation for Walt will be held on Saturday, November 16, from 1 p.m. until time of service, 4 p.m., at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral, 705 W. Eleven Mile Rd. (four blocks east of Woodward), Royal Oak. Entombment will take place on Monday, November 18 at 1 p.m. at Oakview Cemetery in Royal Oak.
