Surrounded by family, Walter John Anderson passed away peacefully on April 2, 2024, at Gilchrist Hospice Facility in Towson. Walt was born on March 6, 1937, in Brooklyn, New York.
Walt and his parents moved to Long Green, Maryland when Walt was 3 years old; attending elementary school in Bainesville (now Loch Raven) and High School at City. After graduation, Walt joined the National Guard in 1955 where he would spend 10 years, ranking up to Sargent (E6) in A Battery 110th Artillery.
Walt started working at the C & P Telephone Company in 1956 and spent the next 15 years in various positions such as installer, frame attendant, and cable puller. In 1971, Walt was promoted to Supervisor, then to Training Supervisor. In 1996, Walt retired the FIRST time! After a four-year hiatus, Walt started working for the State of Maryland at the MVA in Glen Burnie, continuing with his telecommunications expertise. In 2008, Walt would retire again. Taking some time for himself, he got both knees replaced. 2012 found Walt back at the MVA in Glen Burnie for another 11 years. Walt finally retired from over 60+ years of working in telecommunications on January 31, 2023.
While working at C&P, Walt was also very active in boy scouts. He was the Scoutmaster of Troop 497 in Texas, Maryland, from 1965 – 1967, then assistant Scoutmaster, then ultimately Badge Master! As one never retires from scouting, Walt remained active with his beloved troop, attending camping trips, summer camps, troop meetings, and the annual car wash until 2017, when his wife's health took a turn.
Walter, beloved husband of the late Joan Anderson (nee Herbert), and son of the late Charles and Marie Anderson (nee Labowski) is survived by his children Dale Murray, Christopher Anderson (Lisa), Michelle Crum (Wilson), and Katherine Manucci (Gianni); his grandchildren Alex Manucci, Sage Manucci, Matthew Crum, Sophia Manucci, Asher Anderson, and Isabel Anderson; his nieces Jennifer Horton (John) and Denise Aulton (Eric), and their children: Adam, Ava, and Jillian Horton, and Seth and Rachel Aulton
The family will receive friends at the family owned Ruck Towson Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 York Road (Beltway exit 26) on Monday, April 8, 2024, from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Church, Cockeysville. Interment Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens.
