Walter L. Bonds peacefully departed this life on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at Valley Stream Hospital in Valley Stream, New York. He was the youngest of five siblings. Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Lucinda Bonds, and his siblings Samuel Bonds, Altoría Lawton, Florence Sullivan, and Lois Bonds Ellison. In 1972, Walter married Naomi White of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Together, they shared 40 years of marriage, building a home in St. Albans, New York, and traveling extensively throughout the United States until her passing. Although they had no children, their union was filled with love and cherished memories. Walter was a proud graduate of Carver High School in Gadsden, Alabama. He went on to attend Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, before transferring to Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree. Following college, Walter served in the U.S. Army in the Department of Communications, receiving an honorable discharge after two years of service. Professionally, Walter dedicated 27 years of his career to the New York City Department of Housing, where he served as a Manager of Senior Housing until his retirement. A man of deep faith, Walter was a devoted member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Jamaica, Queens, New York, where he worshiped faithfully until his health began to decline. Walter will be remembered as a man of remarkable kindness, whose guidance, insight, and steadfast character enriched the lives of all who knew him. He was a good neighbor you could always count on, a loyal friend, and a trusted confidant. Walter carried a wealth of knowledge and life experience, which he shared freely and with humility, enriching the lives of his family and friends. He lived each day with dignity and pride, guided by unwavering ethical and moral principles. His legacy of integrity, compassion, and wisdom will continue to inspire all who were blessed to be part of his life. Walter leaves behind family and friends who will continue to cherish and celebrate his memory.
