Walter I. Buchert, Jr., 88, of Lancaster, passed away at Lancaster General Hospital Monday, March 9, 2026. Born in Danville, he was the son of the late Walter I. Buchert, M.D. and Catharine (Smith) Buchert. He was the loving husband of Doris M. (Henry) Buchert, with whom he would have celebrated 31 years on March 25.
Walter attended Danville area schools and graduated from Mercersburg Academy and Bucknell University. He also graduated from the U.S. Naval Officers' Candidate School, Newport R.I. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the USS Tioga County, out of San Diego, CA and also at the Pentagon, Washington, D.C.
In addition to his wife, Doris, he is survived by two children, Walter I. Buchert III (Lori) and Lynne C. Weidner (John Piaskowski); three grandchildren, Katlyn Fiel (Skyler), Samantha Buchert, and Zachary Weidner. Also surviving him is a sister, Sally B. Marinelli.
Predeceasing him, in addition to his parents, were his first wife, Dona-Kay Buchert, and infant daughter, Blythe.
In accordance with Walt's wishes, services will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Walter's memory may be made to the Pennsylvania Wounded Warrior's Inc. by visiting: https://www.pawoundedwarriors.org/.
