Obituary published on Legacy.com by House of Law, Inc. Funeral Home and Cremation Services - Penn Hills on Feb. 17, 2022.
Walter G. Chambers, Jr. (also known as Wally) was born to the late Frieda Ann Felder and Walter G. Chambers, Sr. on December 11, 1956. He has two siblings, Stephanie Carol Nichols (Ricardo) and Jacqueline Ann Chambers. He was a 1974 graduate of Schenley High School. He also served in the United States Army from 1976 to 1977 receiving an Honorable Discharge.
He and his wife Cynthia (Cindy) met as teenagers and were united in marriage on July 8, 1976. Out of this union were born three beautiful children – Charles Ramon Chambers, Walter Ronale Chambers and Carmen Marie Miller (Jeffrey).
Walter gave his life to Christ in 1976, after a dear friend of his, Courtland Mitchell, shared the love of God with him. He then shared the message of the Good News with his wife, Cindy, and the two of them began their Christian journey. They began fellowshipping with other young adult Christians and eventually met Reverend Dr. Cecil Barry, who they accredit for their spiritual foundation and growth. He and his wife Brenda exemplified true love and Christian family values. Walter attended many churches throughout the years, but more recently became a minister at Freedom Temple Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor Albert Grice.
Walter was blessed with many gifts and talents, including music, sports, and acting. He enjoyed watching nature and hunting shows. During his youth, he was involved in competitive sports such as swimming, baseball, boxing and football. He had his first amateur boxing match at age 16. He had a love for music and played several instruments including drums, trumpet and the trombone. He also was known for his melodious tenor voice and would sing at competitions, churches and various events throughout the city. Walter loved being on the stage. He majored in Theater at Point Park University to develop his acting skills. He was a member of Kuntu Repertory Theatre and was most notably remembered for his roles in "The Silence of the Lambs" and "Jackson Five: An American Dream."
Out of all of Walter's giftings, his true passion was preaching the Word of God with his friends, family and anyone he would meet. At any given time or day, he would be seen passing out tracts and preaching to the young men on the street corners. He had a love for the Word of God and would spend countless nights and days studying the Bible. Because of his vast knowledge and understanding of the Bible, many of his friends addressed him as "Dr. Chambers." He also coached and mentored many children and young males throughout the years, encouraging them to go to college and pursue professional careers.
Walter was known for his humor, wit, outgoing personality and warm heart. When he entered a room, he made his presence known. He would meet people everywhere he went. He loved to tell stories and always had a captive audience. He had a special love in his heart for his grandchildren, instilling in them the love of music and often giving them words of wisdom and encouragement. He had special nicknames for them, including Snowball, Lightning, Skittles, Sweet Pea, Silver Surfer and Spider Man.
Walter leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 45 years, Cynthia Ruth Chambers, his sisters, Stephanie Carol Nichols (Ricardo) and Jacqueline Ann Chambers, his children, Charles Ramon Chambers, Walter Ronale Chambers, and Carmen Marie Miller (Jeffrey), his nephews, Kevin Chambers, Dayon Chambers (Rosalyn) and Earon Chambers, his niece Tynisha Chambers, 14 grandchildren, as well as a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins, family and friends.
