WENDELL – Walter Dowe Chard, 95, passed on from this life on Friday, September 12, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Walter was a Los Angeles, California native that served his country in the US Navy. Professionally, Walter owned and operated his own welding business. He dedicated his life to his family, loving them unconditionally. Walter lived a long, full life and helped countless people along the way. He'll always be remembered for the love and kindness he showed towards others. Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Kenneth Chard and Rose Lea Smith, son, Kenny Chard and his brother, Clifford Chard.

Walter is survived by his loving bride and best friend of 14 years, Melba Chard; his children, Kevin Chard (Renn), Robbie Chard (Theresa), Donald Eatmon (Bonnie) and Donna Pollard; 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be at 3:00 pm on Friday, September 19, 2025 in the Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory Chapel, Wendell NC with conferring of military honors. The family will receive friends other times at the home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Medi Home Health & Hospice for the loving care and support they extended during this difficult time. Donations can be sent to the attention of Kyle Sheeley at 901 Dorothy Sanders Way, Raleigh NC 27601.
