Walter Chudy

Walter Chudy, 96, of Rocky Hill, entered eternal life Thursday, April 10, 2025 after a brief illness. He was born in Tarnawiec, Poland, on October 13,1928, to Michael and Agata (Kosiarska) Chudy. Walter was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maria, in 1991.
Walter lost his mother at a young age and, along with his 5 siblings, was raised by their father. Like many others, he endured great hardship living in Poland during World War II.
After his service in the Army, Walter returned home and married Maria in 1954. He was elected to the position of "Soltys" (Mayor) of his village, where residents relied on him to translate documents, petition authorities, and settle disputes.
Together with Maria and their three children, he immigrated to the United States on April 1, 1966, first settling in Hartford then spending the next 50 years in Rocky Hill.
He worked in the machining industry, retiring as an inspector for Flanagan Brothers in Glastonbury.
Walter led a full life and provided for his family with hard work and selflessness. During his retirement years, he found purpose in helping others. He cherished his independence, became a good cook, and enjoyed having guests for conversation and card games.
A devout Catholic, he was a member of SS. Cyril and Methodius Parish in Hartford, where he held various positions in the church and also served as an altar server. He was grateful to the strong church community, including current and past pastors, priests, the Brother Albert Society and the Golden Seniors, all of whom provided friendship and support. He came from a generation that appreciated what they had and never complained about what they lacked.
Our "Tato" loved working with his hands. He mowed his grass religiously, planted flowers, tended his vegetable garden, and followed his favorite team, the Boston Red Sox. He was blessed with a beautiful singing voice and enjoyed playing the violin and organ. But more than anything, he loved sitting on his deck late into summer evenings.
His 25-year membership at the Rocky Hill Senior Center brought him much joy and comfort. The highlight of each day was seeing friends, sharing lunch, and attending the various special events. He remained forever grateful for the community he found there.
He is survived by his loving children: Adam Chudy and wife Elizabeth, Boguslaw Chudy and wife Diana, and Mark Chudy and his partner Diana Dean. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Jessica Chudy and her husband Dr.Giorgio Roccaro, Justine Chudy, Peter Chudy and his wife Rebekah and Krystina Chudy. His great-grandsons, Lorenzo and Leonardo Chudy Roccaro. His grandchildren brought "Dziadziu" much joy and many smiles. Walter was predeceased by his brothers Stanley, John, Joseph; his sisters Teresa and Weronika; and his infant daughter, Krysia. He also shared a deep bond with Weronika Wrona, a companion he lovingly supported through her battle with dementia.
The Chudy family would like to thank the staff at Middlesex Hospital for the compassionate care they provided.
Friends and relatives may pay their respects to the Chudy family on Tuesday April 15, 2025,from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd, Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in SS. Cyril and Methodius Church, 63 Popieluszko Court, Hartford. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park in Rocky Hill.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations in Walter's memory be made to SS. Cyril & Methodius Church Restoration Fund.
