Walt Ralph (Walt) Cook, age 82, passed away surrounded by his loving family. Walt was born on March 28,1943 to Ralph and Clara Turner Cook. He was raised in the Kennesaw area and graduated from McEachern High School in 1961. He was the last surviving child of seven brothers and sisters.
After working 14 years at the US Postal Service, Walt pursued his love of residential building as the owner of Hermitage Properties and JWC Foundations creating homes that families could enjoy. After retiring he worked for ProFire Restoration obtaining their permits and inspections. They became his other family whom he loved very much. Walt was always happy when he could be riding the roads in his truck. He enjoyed fishing, traveling and gardening. He especially enjoyed spending time watching the Atlanta Braves and college football.
Walt is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Joan Wilbur Cook, daughters Amanda Muller and her husband, David Muller, Melissa Pelfrey and Joey Pelfrey, who he considered his son, Christie Carpenter; grandchildren Joshua Carpenter, Ryan Pelfrey and his fiancé Brooke Doss, Tyler Pelfrey and his wife Julia, Brooke Ernst; great-grandson James Walter Pelfrey; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Sherry Denise Cook, and his son, Walter Russell Cook.
The family will receive friends on Monday, December 22, 2025, from 11am until 1pm at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta. A Memorial Service will be held immediately afterwards at 1pm in the funeral home chapel.
