Walter Coon III, best known as Rusty, of
Norton, Ohio, passed of Parkinson's-related complications on January 22, 2026, one month before his 70th birthday.
Born on February 25, 1956, in
Akron, Ohio to Walter and Dorothy (McClure) Coon. Rusty was known for his ornery spirit, infectious laughter and dedication to his family and friends. Rusty's kindness, patience, and generosity, his frequent helping hand, odd sayings, and mischievous jokes will be missed by many.
Rusty built and maintained sub-stations for First Energy until retirement, and spent his time working on cars, ballroom dancing, practicing martial arts, camping, fishing, stealing the deal in Euchre, and especially enjoying the company of his many, many friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Joyce (Wiese), who he lovingly cared for through an illness that ended their 37 years of marriage. Finding himself in a quiet world, Rusty was fortunate enough to find love for a second time, proving that his heart knew no bounds. He married Julie (Cagle), who brought renewed light, laughter, and companionship into his life. They shared eleven years of love, laughter, travel and adventures.
Remaining to cherish Rusty's memory are his wife, Julie (Cagle); his siblings, Gary (Marilyn) Coon and Joyce (Bear) Marino; his son, Brian Coon (Rebecca Gapinski) and grandchildren, Harrison, Nora and William Gapinski-Coon; his daughter, Stephanie Jensen and grandchildren, Nolan and Hayes Jensen; his step-daughter, Jennifer Cagle and step-grandchildren, Bryon and Abbigail Huddleston, Caleb Bloodworth; his step-daughter, Elizabeth (Roger) Bickerstaff and step-grandchildren, Carly Weingart and Maggie (Nathaniel) White; bonus step-grandchildren Dakota Bickerstaff and Haley (Jason) Martinez; and a wide circle of friends and extended family who knew him as a man of great integrity and kindness. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Dorothy (McClure) Coon.
Rusty lived a life anchored in faith, trusting in God's grace until the very end.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, February 8, 2026, from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm with the Memorial Service immediately following at 1:00 pm, with a luncheon after the service, at Waite Funeral Home 765 N. Court St.,
Medina, Ohio 44256.
