Walter R. Devoe

Walter R. Devoe of Medford passed away on Thursday, April 26, 2007 at Winchester Hospital. He was 85 years of age. Born in Somerville, Walter was the loving son of the late Simon Chester Devoe and Christina (Morrison) Devoe. Walter was a warm and caring son, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, neighbor and friend. He will be sadly missed. Walter was a dedicated driver for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Association (MBTA) for many years. He was an avid sports, especially enjoying watching the Boston Red Sox. Walter played baseball and hockey for Medford High School. During World War II, Walter proudly defended our freedom by serving as a Seaman First Class in the United States Coast Guard. Walter was a devoted family man. They were first and foremost in his life. Walter was the beloved wife of the late Lillian (McFadden) Devoe. He was the devoted father of Marcia Filamond and Susan McLean, both of Stoneham, Richard Devoe of North Reading, Stephen Devoe of Revere, Robert Devoe of Lynnfield, Jean Manoun of Wakefield, David Devoe of Stoughton, Donald Devoe of Wilmington and Paul Devoe of Peabody. Walter was the cherished grandfather of 18 and great grandfather of 2. He was the dear brother of the late Eleanor Stephenson. Funeral from the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (RT 28) STONEHAM Monday at 7:45am followed by a Funeral Mass celebrating Walter's life in St. Joseph's Church, 114 High St. Medford at 9am. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend Visiting Hours, Sunday 2-6pm. Parking attendants will be on duty. Interment Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
