it's really sad when you fall out of touch with someone. Having moved away and then off to college I am sad to say that I had fallen out of touch with Gene. Having worked with Gene occasionally in the summer as his carpenter assistant and helping out at the concession stand I can say that Gene was a real standup guy. I will miss him dearly.

Dear DuVal family,
My prayers go out to all of you at this time. Gene was a fun loving nut. He kept my dad in stitches and tried to keep the girls in line both on and off the field. I am not sure how any coaching was ever done at practice because he was such a cut up. I am grateful to Gene for keeping in-touch with my dad for so many years. My dad loved nothing more than to spend hours on the phone talking to Gene about softball and laughing about their good times as Falling Creek coaches. Take care and know that the world is a better place because of the happiness Gene brought to so many.

Oh Gene... The fun times we had playing softball with you. You allowed me to make some of the best friends and memories a girl could ask for. From the many pizzas from Pizza Den to the car pools in the old truck of junk and the thunderbird. I'll never forget when we took your thunderbird to the bathroom one game and Jessica Luck nearly killed us all in it. I also always remember you giving us those crazy snack cakes all the time! Man were those the good ol days! Say hi to Jenny for all of us and yal don't have to much fun up there. Thanks for all the good times.

I will miss Walter deeply - he was such a funny guy! Always with a joke or a bit of insanely obscure trivia, you couldn't help but smile in his presence. His devotion to Georgia was truly touching - my heart goes out to his family. Trish @ Richmond Ford

I have only worked with Walter for a month but that was all it took to realize how good of a person he was. He would make you smile everyday and tell you one of his or a couple of his stories. I will miss him and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

The Falling Creek community has lost a wonderful man. Gene was such an active volunteer in the Falling Creek atheletics, that sometimes he was a one man show. Always with a joke, an opinion and a helping hand, he inspired many kids to play sports and many parents to get involved as he did our family.
Only one thing replaced his love of that and that was Georgia. His face would light up like a kid at Christmas when he talked about her. I'm so glad he found that happiness in his life.
Our prayers are with you and God is always by your side

I miss him already. He was always smiling, always telling a joke. As his next-door neighbor, we talked so many times at the fence between our properties, politics being a favorite subject. Since we saw things very differently, those conversations were pretty lively. I will miss that. Walter was a great guy, a good person. My sincerest sympathies to all the family and Georgia and her children. Lauren

Gene-I have so many good memories of you! It was you who found me, Amanda, and Jenny throwing the ball infront of Falling Creek Middle School that day and came over to talk to Dad about signing us up. I'll always remember working with you at The Diamond and pizza at Pizza Den after every practice and game. Your truck was a mess, but you'ld pile us all in whenever we needed rides. Your laugh was contagious, your heart filled with gold, and your kindness genuine. I hope you'll spend some time with my sister. You will really be missed!

We here at Richmond Ford would like to offer our thoughts and prayers to Walter's family and friends. Walter will be greatly missed here. He had a heart of gold and would do anything to help his co-workers. We will also miss the way he could brighten our day with some obscure story about any subject, at any time.I personally will miss him hovering around my desk and hearing his chuckle from across the room.

Gene talked me into joining the board of the Falling Creek Athletic Association .We sure had some crazy times .Just 2 weeks ago we were remembering selling ice cream at the Diamond, the dunking booth at Fun Day, and getting cotton candy in our hair on a windy day! To this day, I don't know what we put in that Brunswick stew, after a few beers! Gene, you finally acknowledged that Michelle DID break her elbow, and wasn't being a baby. Thanks for all of the fun Falling Creek Girls Softball memories, and for putting Michelle on 1st base! We will miss your (bad) jokes. Tell Jenny we miss her.

Gene was a special kind of person, always joking always happy. Georgia would always talk of holidays and what they were cooking. Gene loved holidays and he loved Georgia. They were a special couple, I know he will be terribly missed. Remember the good times and good days...God has taken over now and Gene will be at peace.

It is hard to express how much of a loss Walter is to everyone. His family has my deepest sympathy. Walter was one of a kind. He could put a smile on anyone's face, and he was not afraid to speak his mind. We need more special Walter's in the world. He will be deeply missed.

Some of my fondest memories were on the softball field. I went through many coaches and many teammates, but my softball years were the best years. I owe this to Gene. He took me under his wing when I was only 8 years old and as I grew older, he was always there. Gene had a wonderful sense of humor, even though some of his jokes I didnt quite understand until I got older. Gene was one of a kind and I can still remember when he met Georgia. I can still see the glow in his face and hear the pitch in his voice that let you know he was forever a changed man. He seemed a lot like a young boy with his first puppy love. I will miss you Gene and do me a favor and make sure Jenny is staying out of trouble.
