Funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at 11AM, in the Wilkerson Funeral Home-Vanceboro Chapel. Burial will follow the service in Celestial Memorial Gardens in Vanceboro. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, from 5-7PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home-Vanceboro.
Walter, son of James and Pearlie Evans, was born in Pitt County on September 9, 1934. He was a devout Christian and attended Tabernacle Holiness Church, where he enjoyed fellowship and playing the piano for many years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Throughout his career he enjoyed working at A&P, Hatteras Yachts, and Lowe's Home Improvement. He was a multi-talented man, passionate about fixing things that were broken, and always able to find a solution to a problem.
In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Evelyn Evans, and brothers, George Evans and James "Alonza" Evans.
He is survived by his children: daughter, Kathy Griekspoor (Marty); son, Greg Evans (Heather); grandson, Chris Griekspoor (Alisha); granddaughter, Kimberly Mills (Daniel); and sisters: Mildred McLawhorn and Dorothy "Dot" Coward.
