Walter Lee Gibson

Walter Lee Gibson, age 84, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Walter was born on August 14, 1941, in Greenup County, Kentucky, to Ollie Gibson and Pearl Brown McKenzie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, great-granddaughter, Lexus Brown; stepchildren, Billy Allen and Timothy Allen; his sister, Donna Gibson; half-sisters, Ruby Piepkow, Mary Bibler, and JoAnne Bieske; and his half-brother, Paul McKenzie.

Walter is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Virginia Gibson; his children, Sherry Wojnas, Karen (Terry) Vansickle, and Walter (Crystal) Gibson Jr.; his stepson, Stephen (Heather) Allen; and his stepdaughter, Melody Gibbs. He is also survived by his brother, Chester "Chet" (Lora) Gibson; his sister, Maggie (Junior) Holbrook; along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family members, and friends.

Walter enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He loved fishing, following NASCAR, and spending time playing pool and poker. Above all else, he cherished his family and especially treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren, who brought him immense joy.

Honoring Walter's wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held to honor him on February 6, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 302 5th Street, Michigan Center, Michigan 49254. Family and friends are invited to attend and are welcome to bring a dish to share as we gather to remember and celebrate Walter's life.
