Walter Jennings Gray

Walter "Gene" Jennings Gray passed away at his home on December 29, 2025.
A graveside service celebrating Gene's life will be held on Monday, January 5, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Kinston, North Carolina.
Gene was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, cherished brother, and loyal friend. He was a faithful member of Tanglewood Church of God, where he served as an usher for many years. Gene found great joy in bringing people together, especially through food. He loved cooking for family and friends and was well known for his fish stews and pig pickins.
Gene enjoyed a long and successful career with Speedway Convenience Stores, serving as a District Manager for 12 years. He later worked in food distribution sales, and even after retirement, he continued to stay active, working at Walmart for the past six years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Verna Beatrice Broadhurst Gray and Felix Eugene Gray, and by his siblings, Verna Ann, Freddie, and Bill.
Gene is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Iris Jarman Gray; his daughter, Andrea Mills, and her husband, Geoffrey; and his treasured granddaughter, Peyton.
