Walter Kukich Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 5, 2024.
Kukich, Walter Frank
A longtime resident of Bloomington passed away peacefully on November 2, 2024, at the age of 95. He was born in Keewatin, Minnesota, to Frances and Tony Kukich, and grew up with a strong work ethic and a love for his family and faith.
After graduating from R.L. Downing High School in 1946, Walt worked in the mines of Northern Minnesota before answering the call to serve his country. From 1951 to 1953, he was stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, as a Radio Engineer in the U.S. Army.
Walt's professional life took him to the University of Minnesota, Duluth, where he earned a degree in accounting in 1956. His career spanned 32 years, first at U.S. Steel in Duluth and later at Control Data in the Twin Cities, from which he retired in 1988.
In 1955, Walt married Dorothy, the love of his life, and together they shared 69 years of joy and unwavering partnership. They made their home in Bloomington for 61 years, raising their two children, Marianne and Greg. After retiring, Walt and Dorothy spent their winters in sunny Mesa, Arizona, enjoying the warmth and the opportunity to explore new places.
Walt was an active man with many interests. He loved golfing and stayed active well into his later years as an exercise enthusiast. Walt had a competitive streak and enjoyed playing bocci ball in his younger days. He was also a talented squeeze box player and had a great passion for hunting and fishing. As a family, they took many road trips, touring the United States with their camper and creating memories that would last a lifetime.
Faith was central to Walt's life. He was a devoted Catholic with a deep love for his family and God. He was a founding member of St. Edward's Church in Bloomington, where he volunteered and could almost always be found attending Sunday Mass.
Walt was preceded in death by his parents Frances and Tony, his brother Dan, and his son Greg. He is survived by his loving wife Dorothy, his daughter Marianne, son-in-law John, and grandchildren Blake and Tony.
A celebration of Walt's life will take place on November 13, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Edward's Church in Bloomington (9401 Nesbitt Avenue South). Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Following the celebration, a lunch will be served. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Edwards Catholic Church in his memory (www.stedwardschurch.org).
