Walter "Eddie" Edward Matson, age 89, passed away on October 20, 2025, in Dallas, Texas. Eddie was born August 27, 1936, in Charleston, South Carolina, to George Anthony Matson and Marie (Cuzzell) Matson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother's George, Anthony and Pete; sister's Kathryn Garvin and Mary Gilbert; son Victor Matson; and daughter Barbra Lynn Matson.
Eddie is survived by his wife, Patsy (Brewer) Matson; daughters, Christina Matson Cook, Vanessa McMahen & husband Gene McMahen, Shari Schauer & husband Mike Schauer; son, Thomas Horton; Grandchildren, Wynter Beltran, Gena Erdman, Jordin Martin, Victor Matson, Taylor Lopez, Shelby McMahen, Preston Matson, Jennifer Schauer-Johnston, Jessica Schauer, Hayden Matson and Tony Matson; Great Grandchildren: Owen Erdman, Isla Erdman, Knox Lopez, Reagan Martin, Boston Lopez, Daisy Erdman.
Eddie, often referred to as "Pappy", could always be found loving and supporting his family alongside his wife, Patsy or "Mema". He loved sitting around the table, enjoying a cup of coffee, and never without a napkin nearby. As he would say, "You never know when you're going to need a napkin". He could always be heard singing or whistling, a sound many of us will never forget. He was full of stories, reciting every detail of incidents that occurred decades ago. Always smiling, and always happy. Never too much said without a joke or two in between. He was full of life, love and joy. His memory will stay in our hearts forever.
