Walter J Murzyn

Walter John Murzyn, beloved husband of the late Blanche Dorothy Fedorczyk Murzyn, passed away on 01/16/2026.

Born on August 22, 1924, in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn, NY, he was the only son of the late Frances Florek Murzyn and the late John Murzyn. He had three sisters: the late Stella Murzyn Patrowicz, the late Helen Murzyn, and the late Rosalie Murzyn Schmidt. Although he and his wife, Blanche, had no children, he leaves behind wonderful friends and several nieces and nephews.

He attended St. Stanislaus Kostka Grammar School in Brooklyn, NY, followed by Eastern District High School in Brooklyn. He was fluent in Polish his entire life. At the age of 20, he was drafted into the Army and received basic training at Fort Riley, Kansas, in the mounted Cavalry. Ultimately, he joined the 1st Cavalry Division at Leyte, Philippines, and remained with the unit through Japan's ultimate surrender in Tokyo Bay. He attained the highest non-commissioned officer rank of Master Sergeant and served at Division Headquarters. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and remained in the reserves until 1950, when he received his second honorable discharge. A few years later, he started working for Pan American World Airways in various positions and remained with them for 38 years, over half of which was negotiating and contracting for Pan American's worldwide jet fuel requirements as the Director Fuel Contracts, a most challenging and demanding position. On his trips around the world, his wife, Blanche, would join him, and they enjoyed the sights and sounds together. They visited the birthplaces of their parents in Poland. Both were excellent polka dancers who met at a church polka dance in Elizabeth, NJ, and danced their lives together for over 67 years.

Funeral services are with Barrett Leber Funeral Home, Tenafly, NJ. Church services will be at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Garfield, NJ. Burial is at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, New Jersey.
