Walter A. Oppe, age 99, of Edwards, passed away at 10:56 AM on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center.
Walter was born May 13, 1925 in Peoria, a son to August and Anna (Lapp) Oppe. On November 3, 1951 Walter married the love of his life Annette Pioletti in Roanoke. Together they cherished 58 years until her passing on April 17, 2009. Walter drove a semi-truck for Pipco for many years and was a member of Teamsters Local 627. Walter was a very crafted man who built a lot of buildings in Peoria, including his children's homes. His pride and joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include six children: Theresa (the late Frank) Cipri of Peoria, Anthony Oppe of West Peoria, James (Barb) Oppe of Edwards, Daniel Oppe of Edwards, Donald Oppe of Edwards and Douglas (Martha) Oppe of Edwards; three grandchildren: Joshua (Jessica) Cipri, Annette Oppe, and Sophia Oppe; one great-grandson Asher Cipri; one sister Mildred "Mickey" Gilles of Elmwood and one brother, Warren Oppe of Peoria.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, wife Annette, three brothers: Eldon, Joseph and Thomas; and four sisters: Ida, Helen, Mary Ann and Leota.
Visitation will be held at St. Mary's Kickapoo Parish Hall on Friday, February 28, 2025 from 4:00 PM until time of recitation of the rosary at 6:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Kickapoo on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 10:30 AM with an additional visitation 30 minutes prior to mass. Father James Pankiewicz will officiate, and burial will follow in Swan Lake Memory Gardens.
Preferred memorials in Walter's memory may be made to St Mary's School in Kickapoo.
