Walter L.G. Perry Jr.

Walter L. G. Perry, Jr., 85, of East Greenwich, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love of his family on Sunday, March 8, 2026. He was the devoted and loving husband of Janet P. (Principe) Perry, with whom he shared 54 wonderful years of marriage. He was born on October 30, 1940 in Providence, RI to the late Walter L. Perry, Sr. and Frances (Hand) Perry.

In addition to his beloved wife Janet, he is survived by his two loving children, Christopher M. Perry and Michelle M. (Perry) Fagundes, her husband Jamie A. Fagundes; and his cherished grandchildren, Caden, Callie, Kona, and Braydon. Walter was the oldest of three brothers and maintained a close and cherished bond with his family throughout his life. He was the brother of the late Raymond F. Perry and David B. Perry.

Walter proudly served in the United States Army. During his time stationed in Kentucky, he was invited to play hockey for the Detroit Red Wings' farm team, the Louisville Rebels of the IHL. He was later recognized by the Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky for his contributions and service to the community. Walter remained committed to his military service and continued his journey with the Army, proudly serving his country in Korea during the Korean Conflict, where he also attained a black belt in martial arts.

Following his military service, Walter began what would become a long and respected career in the electrical trade. He was a graduate of the IBEW Local 99 JATC apprenticeship program. Walter was a passionate advocate for organized skilled labor and served for many years as an elected officer in various board positions, as well as a representative of the RI Building Trades (AFL-CIO). His service included a long elected term as President of IBEW Local 99, where he worked tirelessly on behalf of the membership and represented every member with pride and integrity.

Walter fully embraced and loved life and always gave everything he had to everything he did. He was a very passionate and dedicated sports fan of the New England Patriots, Providence College Hockey, and was a Providence Bruins season ticket holder for many years. He was also an avid golfer and skier and enjoyed travelling with his wife and family.

Above all else, Walter was the biggest fan of his grandchildren and followed their sporting careers and accomplishments closer than anyone. He could always be found proudly cheering on his grandchildren at their many sporting events and activities from near or far. Family meant everything to him, and his grandchildren brought him immeasurable joy.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 13, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick. A Catholic Prayer Service will follow in the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Burial with military honors will take place at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter.
