With heartfelt sorrow and hope in the resurrection, the family of Walter E. Rival Sr. announces his peaceful passing on July 14th 2025, at the age of 80.
Born on November 13th, 1944 in New Britain, Connecticut to Edmund J. Rival and Florence Callahan, Walter lived a life rooted in Catholic faith, devotion, and love for those around him. A devoted member of St. Timothy's, Walter found strength and joy in the Sacraments, prayer, and fellowship, always seeking to serve Christ in others.
Walter was united in holy matrimony to Rosemarie Zoccoli on August 6th, 1966 at St. Ann's Church, New Britain Connecticut, and together they shared 58 blessed years. He is survived by his loving brother, Charlie Rival. He raised his family in Connecticut and was the beloved parent of Walter E. Rival Jr., Christina M. Rival, Debra A. Rival (Perazzella) and the cherished Grandparent of Rachel A. Rival (Mann), James Perazzella Jr., Ryan Perazzella and Livia Robbins.
He is preceded in death by Edmund, Florence, and Peter Rival. Walter now rejoices in the presence of the Lord, reunited with loved ones gone before.
We will remember the love and passion Walter had in serving in the US Marine Corp, in pursuing the perfect game of golf and his career as a Plumber. He enjoyed many happy years of retirement with Rosemarie in Florida.
The visitation will be held at Beyers Funeral Home in Lady Lake/The Villages from 9-11 AM on Friday, July 25th. Funeral service take place at 11am at the funeral home. Rite of Committal will follow at Florida National Cemetery – Bushnell.
The family invites you to join in prayer for the repose of Walter's soul, trusting in Christ's words:
"I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, even though they die, will live." – John 11:25
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Timothy's Catholic Church, The Villages, Florida in Walter's memory.
May the angels lead you into Paradise, Walter E. Rival Sr.
